I was walking my dogs the other day and noticed the serenity and peacefulness around me. For some reason, it reminded me of an old song by Nat King Cole that I hadn't heard in over 40 years. It just popped into my head like I had heard it yesterday: Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer.
It brought me back to my childhood, to carefree summer days, camping trips, and time spent with family.
Summer really is a special season. It invites us to slow down, linger a little longer, and notice the people and moments we can so easily rush past. The backyard visits. The cottage weekends. The porch conversations. The family BBQs.
One of my favourite summertime memories was sitting on the porch during a heavy rainfall, listening to the sound of the rain coming down, and just relaxing.
Today, life is a little more complicated. Those lazy, hazy moments can be harder to find as we wrestle with always being "on." Staying connected to our phones and laptops makes it difficult to fully break free from work, even when we are supposed to be on vacation. And when I say "we," I am including myself.
Although nothing takes the place of real, one-on-one connection with family and friends, sometimes life, distance, and busy schedules make it hard to be there in person. And when we can't make the trip ourselves, a thoughtful gift can make the journey for us.
A gift basket with a personal note can be a simple way of saying, "I'm thinking of you." It becomes a small reminder that someone is loved, remembered, and worth celebrating, even when we can't be there face to face.
That is the heart behind Cherished Gift Baskets.
We want each basket to feel like more than a gift. We want it to feel like a moment of thoughtfulness delivered right to someone's door.
So as these lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer unfold, maybe it is the perfect time to pause and think about who could use a little encouragement, a little joy, or a simple reminder that they are cherished.
